Philadelphia Union thrash New York City FC 5-1 to extend unbeaten run
The Philadelphia Union continued their impressive run of form with a dominant 5-1 victory over New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Saturday night.
The Union, who are now unbeaten in their last six games, took the lead in the 16th minute through Daniel Gazdag. The Hungarian midfielder pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired a low shot past Sean Johnson.
New York City FC equalized in the 21st minute through Talles Magno, but the Union regained the lead just five minutes later through Julian Carranza. The Argentine forward headed home a cross from Kai Wagner.
The Union extended their lead in the 35th minute through Mikael Uhre. The Danish striker finished off a fine move involving Gazdag and Carranza.
New York City FC pulled a goal back in the 40th minute through Thiago Martins, but the Union restored their three-goal lead in the 55th minute through a penalty from Gazdag. The Hungarian midfielder converted from the spot after Carranza was fouled in the box.
The Union put the game to bed in the 75th minute through Jack Elliott. The defender headed home a corner from Wagner.
The win moved the Union up to third place in the Eastern Conference, while New York City FC remained in sixth place.
