The football tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics was held from 21st July to 7th August 2021 in Japan, with matches taking place in seven cities across the country, in addition to the Olympic host city of Tokyo.
Brazil successfully defended their men's football title at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, defeating Spain on penalties in the final. The match finished 1-1 after extra time, with Malcom opening the scoring for Brazil in the 38th minute and Mikel Oyarzabal equalizing for Spain in the 61st minute. In the penalty shootout, Brazil won 4-2.
This was Brazil's second consecutive gold medal in men's football at the Olympics, and their third overall. They also won the gold medal in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and the silver medal in 2012 in London.
Spain won the silver medal, their first medal in men's football at the Olympics since they won the gold medal in 1992. Mexico won the bronze medal, defeating Japan 3-1 in the third-place match.
