Former Congresswoman Announces Departure

Views on Islamic Terrorism Distinguished Her from Mainstream Democrats

Former congresswoman and 2020 presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard announced on Tuesday that she is leaving the Democratic Party. In a video message posted on social media, Gabbard said that the party had become "an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue & stoking anti-white racism." She added that the party "is actively working to undermine our God-given freedoms." Gabbard's views on Islamic terrorism have distinguished her from many mainstream Democrats. In 2015, she met with US-backed Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who has been accused of human rights abuses. Gabbard has also been critical of US military intervention in the Middle East.

Gabbard's departure from the Democratic Party is a sign of the growing divide within the party between its progressive and moderate wings. In recent years, the party has become more vocal in its opposition to US military intervention and its support for progressive policies such as Medicare for All and the Green New Deal. However, some moderates within the party have expressed concern that the party is moving too far to the left and alienating moderate voters.

Gabbard's decision to leave the Democratic Party is a significant development in American politics. It is a sign of the growing divide within the party and the challenges facing the party as it tries to appeal to both progressive and moderate voters.
