Noel Returns to Dallas in Trade with Detroit

Noel Signs with Playoff Contender after Contract Buyout

Former Dallas Mavericks center Nerlens Noel has found a new home, returning to the team that traded him away in 2017. On Monday, the Pistons and Noel agreed to a contract buyout, allowing the 28-year-old to join a playoff contender before the March 1 deadline. According to reports, Noel turned down a $72 million contract extension from Dallas, opening the door for a potential reunion.

The Mavericks acquired Noel in a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers on February 23, 2017, in exchange for Justin Anderson, Andrew Bogut, and a 2017 protected first-round pick. Noel's first stint in Dallas was relatively brief, and he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2019. He has since played for the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers.

Noel's return to Dallas comes at a crucial time for the Mavericks, who are currently in contention for a playoff spot. The team has struggled defensively this season, and Noel's ability to protect the rim and rebound effectively could provide a much-needed boost. It remains to be seen how Noel will fit into the Mavericks' rotation, but his experience and defensive prowess could be invaluable in the team's push for the postseason.
